specific type of bond that ensures that employees of the company (the contractor that gets the bond) receive their wages and benefits.     <p>No, this bond is <strong>NOT<\/strong> insurance. It is a financial guarantee that states that you, the business owner that is an LLC, will pay your employees.<\/p><p>Insurance such as General Liability pays for bodily injury or property damage that you\u2019ve caused to others and are held liable for. General Liability pays for mistakes. This bonds pays your employees if you fail to meet your obligations.<\/p><p>Perhaps the biggest difference between the LLC Employee \/ Worker Bond and insurance is that if your bond company (called the surety) pays on your behalf,<strong><em> you will have to pay it back to the surety<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p><p>Here\u2019s short version showing how a claim scenario could occur:<\/p><ol><li>The employer doesn\u2019t pay its worker. Why? Could be any reason, but with contractors a common reason is that the contractor is waiting to get paid by another contractor for services rendered on a construction project and cash flow has dried up.<\/li><li>The employee files a claim for unpaid wages<\/li><li>The surety pays the claim, up to $100,000<\/li><li>The surety demands reimbursement from the employer<\/li><li>There are two alternate endings to this story:<ol><li>The employer pays the surety back, keeps its license in good standing, and continues to operate in California.<\/li><li>The employer doesn\u2019t pay the surety back, loses its license, and must cease all operations in California.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><table><thead><tr><th><em>Other Insurance Requirements!<\/em><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><p><strong><em>General Liability<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p><em>As a licensed contractor you will want - and probably contractually need - General Liability insurance.
